Crop protection

The barrier that decides your virus pressure

Mesh size chosen against the pest you actually have, not the number on the cheapest roll — 40 to 100 mesh, 1–6 m wide, UV-stabilised for three to five seasons.

Insect Net

Overview

Insect net works on one variable: the aperture. Too coarse and thrips walk through it; too fine and you trade airflow and temperature for protection you did not need. We supply the full range from 40 mesh for leaf-miner and caterpillar exclusion up to 100 mesh for thrips and whitefly in virus-sensitive crops, and we state the aperture in microns so the choice is a number rather than a guess.

Net is woven from virgin HDPE monofilament, heat-set so the mesh does not distort when tensioned, and stabilised for three to five seasons outdoors. Panels can be sewn to your tunnel dimensions with reinforced edges and grommets, which is what keeps a net airtight at the frame instead of leaving a gap along the gutter.

What it does in the field

  • Aperture stated in microns

Every grade is specified by measured aperture, so you can match it to the pest rather than to a mesh number on a label.

  • Heat-set, stable mesh

The weave is heat-set before winding, so panels do not creep or distort when they are tensioned on the frame.

  • Airflow you can plan around

Mesh open area is quoted per grade, which lets your ventilation design be sized correctly from the start.

  • Reinforced edges and grommets

Sewn borders and grommets on a 50 cm pitch close the frame gap that lets pests in at the gutter.

  • Three to five seasons

UV-stabilised virgin HDPE holds strength through multiple cropping cycles instead of tearing in year two.

Grades available

01

40–50 mesh

Excludes leaf miner, diamondback moth and larger caterpillars while keeping airflow close to open field.

02

60 mesh

The working grade for whitefly and aphid control in tomatoes, capsicum and cucurbits.

03

80–100 mesh

Thrips-grade exclusion for virus-sensitive crops, flowers and propagation units. Requires forced or boosted ventilation.

04

Clear / transparent

Higher light transmission than white for winter production, with the same aperture accuracy.

Packing & loading

Rolls are core-wound, sleeved and labelled with mesh, aperture, width and lot number. Finished panels ship flat in bundles, marked per bay with the installation drawing attached.

Questions buyers ask

80 mesh excludes most thrips, 100 mesh is the safe grade for virus-sensitive crops. Anything coarser lets the smallest instars through.

It reduces open area, so ventilation has to be designed for it. Most growers run 100 mesh on sidewalls and 60 mesh on the roof, or add forced airflow.

Three seasons in most conditions and up to five with the heavier UV grade. Damage usually starts at the frame contact points, which is why we recommend reinforced edges.

Yes. Send the tunnel drawing and we return sewn panels per bay with grommets, labelled and packed in installation order.
