Ground management
Ground cover that still blocks light in year three
Woven polypropylene fabric, 70 to 150 gsm, 0.5 to 4 m wide, with pre-cut planting holes and UV stabilisation that survives multiple seasons in the field.

Overview
The failure mode for cheap ground cover is always the same: the fabric lets light through after one season of sun, weeds come back, and the labour saving disappears. Ours is woven from UV-stabilised polypropylene at a minimum 90% light block, with weight chosen for the application — 70–90 gsm for annual beds and nursery benches, 110–150 gsm for orchards, berries and pathways where the fabric is walked on.
Water and air still move through the weave, so the soil below does not sour or crust. Fabric can be delivered with planting holes cut to your tree spacing, in roll form for straight runs or as individual squares for replanting, and edges can be marked for easy alignment on the row.
What it does in the field
-
Light block above 90%
Weave density is set so no photosynthetically useful light reaches the soil, which is what actually stops germination.
-
Air and water still pass
The open weave keeps the soil below alive, unlike solid plastic sheet that crusts over and sheds water sideways.
-
UV life matched to the site
Stabiliser is compounded into the yarn for three to five years, so the fabric does not fade and thin out after one season.
-
Tear strength for machinery
Heavier grades take foot traffic, tyres and mower edges without splitting along the weave line.
-
Holes on your spacing
Pre-cut planting holes at your tree or plant spacing remove the site cutting step that usually eats a whole day per block.
Grades available
70–90 gsm
Annual vegetable beds, nursery benches, greenhouse floors and short-cycle crops where weight matters less than cost.
110–130 gsm
Orchard and berry rows, field pathways and perennial beds. The standard grade for multi-season installation.
150 gsm heavy
High-traffic walkways, wind-exposed sites and steep ground where the fabric has to resist movement and UV load.
Pre-cut with holes
Planting holes cut to your spacing, with edge marking, so installation on the row is a straight lay rather than an on-site cut.

Packing & loading
Rolls are core-wound, wrapped and labelled with weight, width, length and lot number. Pre-cut stock is bundled per block with a layout sheet so the installer knows which bundle belongs to which row.
Questions buyers ask
70–90 gsm for one or two seasons and low-traffic beds; 110–130 gsm for orchards and pathways that are walked on; 150 gsm where wind, slope or traffic is severe.
Tree and shrub roots stay below the fabric, which is the point: the fabric keeps the root zone moist and weed-free. Keep the hole generous so the collar does not girdle the stem.
Rolls up to 4 m wide can be laid with a standard fabric layer. For narrow orchard strips, hand laying with two people is faster than setting up machinery.
The fabric is mono-material polypropylene and can be recycled where collection exists. We can supply it in a recyclable blend on request.
